James Randel Smith, one of four children of Harold G. and Ruth (Randel) Smith, was born April 13, 1935, in Auburn, Nebraska. He attended Cloverdale rural school near the family’s home south of Auburn through the 8th grade and graduated from Auburn High School in 1953. He went on to study at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Nebraska.
William W. Witty Jr., 79 of Syracuse, passed away on May 1, 2022, after a short battle with dementia. William was born on November 25, 1942, to William & Janice (Miesbach) Witty in Nebraska City. After high school he joined the Air Force Reserves until he was honorably discharged in 1967.
Arnold Krahn, one of four children of Henry and Tina (Warkentin) Krahn, was born June 25, 1933, at Mountain Lake, Minnesota. Arnold’s father passed away when he was a young boy and his mother remarried John Vogt, who helped raise Arnold, and Arnold also gained a step-brother. Arnold began his early education in Mountain Lake, and then at Windom, Minnesota, graduating from Windom High School with the class of 1953.
Charles (Chuck) Joseph Hall Jr. was born in Humboldt, Nebraska to Verna (Parriott) and Charles J. Hall, Sr. on Oct. 29, 1945. Chuck grew up and lived in Pawnee City, Nebraska, and attended Pawnee City High School. He received his undergraduate degree at Doane University and later completed his Ph.D. in History.
Bonnie Arlene Drewel was born to Edward and Ruth (Elliott) Rider on May 19, 1936, in Auburn, Nebraska. She attended school at Nemaha Public School through her sophomore year with the next two years at Honey Creek High School, from which she graduated in 1954.
