Competitive Archery Contest Held During 2019 Nemaha County Fair

The Nemaha County Fair shooting sports contests, especially archery, brought some exciting competition, noted Al Witte. He is with the county’s 4-H Shooting Sports Club.

Note: Senior Division is age 15 and up. Intermediate Division is ages 12 through 14 with Junior Division ages 8-11. A youth’s age as of Dec. 31, 2018 is their 4-H year throughout 2019.

In archery, a perfect score is 600 points. Witte noted in the Senior Division male freestyle class, his son, Kolton Witte, shooting 564 with Bret Baltensperger finishing with 529. “It was tremendous competition. I was proud of both Seniors. They shook hands when they were done. (Witte and Baltensperger) started as Juniors, working their way up through Intermediate and Senior. All of their work paid off. Bret moved up this year from Intermediate. Kolton competed in his final county fair,” his father stated. During the archery contest, Witte noted usually six targets are set up, two from each division. Only one target was set up in the Senior Division this year with just four shooters, the 4-H leader said. “We usually never take them down to replace them. Halfway through the Senior Division, we had to remove the target and put up a new one. The black bullseyes, four-and one-half inches in the center and the yellow nine inch edge were totally annihilated,” Witte noted.
