Bulldog Boys Double Score on Thunderbirds in Regular Season Finale

By Cooper Weeks

Entering their last regular season game of the 2020-2021 season, the Auburn boys basketball team had a record of 19- 0. The only team the Bulldogs still had to play in the regular season were the Thunderbirds of Johnson County Central. The two teams previously played this season in the semifinal round of the ECNC conference tournament. Although the Thunderbirds led the Bulldogs for most of the first quarter in that first meeting, Auburn eventually pulled away and won 65-30. The Bulldogs later defeated Freeman in the championship game to win the ECNC tournament for the second straight year.

Two weeks later, the Bulldogs traveled to Tecumseh to face the Thunderbirds again, and this time it was the Bulldogs who came out hot.

Brothers Cam and Maverick Binder kick-started the Bulldogs’s offense with a couple of three pointers in the first quarter. Cam, Auburn’s senior point guard, would knock down two more three pointers in the opening period, including a last second three that bounced off the rim and backboard before falling in. Another five first quarter points from senior Daniel Frary, and a layup for junior Ryan Binder made for a 19-6 Bulldog lead after the first quarter.
