WANDA JOYCE (BETTS) REED

Wanda Joyce (Betts) Reed was born in Auburn, Nebraska on May 24, 1942, the second of four children born to Robert A. and Lillian G. “Jeep” (Byrom) Betts. Her family moved around a lot following construction, so she went to many different schools in Nebraska and Colorado.

In 1958 Wanda married Clayton Kidd and one son, Jerry L. Kidd, was born to this union. Wanda and Clayton divorced in 1960 and Wanda moved to California. While there she married James P. Reed. Two children were born to this union, James Eugene and Kristal Marie.

In 1962 Wanda and her children moved to Nemaha, Nebraska while Jim was sent to Morocco by the U.S. Air Force. When Jim returned to the States, they moved to Auburn in 1964.

Wanda worked at several jobs, including Dan Deb Manufacturing, Campbell Soup Company, and being self-employed while raising her family. Except for a year in Valley, Nebraska Wanda lived in Nemaha County the rest of her life.

Wanda enjoyed crocheting, reading, watching western movies, working puzzles, and camping. She was a member of the Brock Christian Church where she served as deaconess.

On Sunday, January 23, 2022, Wanda passed away at her home in Brock, Nebraska surrounded by family. She had reached the age of 79 years, 7 months, and 30 days. Her parents, sister Barbara, and many aunts and uncles preceded her in death.

Wanda is remembered with love by her husband Jim; her sons Jerry, James E. (Jolene); daughter Kristal (Delbert) Jeanneret; grandchildren Mike DeFreece, Kelley Lomax, Jeri (Matt) Green, Sabrina Kidd, Krystal (Wes) Yarborough, Cody Reed, Caitlin Reed (fiancé Chans Haynes), Shande, Trent, and Emma Spidell, Rick Eitzmann, Cory Jeanneret (Heather Powell), Zane (Rachael) Brook, Torin (Courtney) Brook, Cameron (Xandria) Jeanneret, AhLeah Morris (fiancé Daniel Fulton) Amanda Brook; great-grandchildren Kerry and Konner Lomax, Paige, Jade and Allora Green, Adelaide, Kolt, Remington and Brynleigh Lotter, Colton and Daniel Yarborough, Payton and Maycee Reed, Ellison Haynes, Mackenlee Spidell, Harper Carmichael, Ryder and Rylen Spidell, Rylee and Kendall Jeanneret, Emmyt, Kynnedy, Blakely, Isaac, Brantley and Ayson Brook, Jax and Ezrah Jeanneret, Lillian, Chloe, Kaylee and Maddox Morris, Landon, Aubree and Shelby Fulton, Logan Konruff and Wrigley Clymer; greatgreat-grandson Aiden Varnell; brothers Robert Betts, Lyle Betts; other relatives and friends.

A memorial service, officiated by Rev. Jackie Gfeller, was held Friday, January 28, 2022, at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn. Special music was played. Honorary bearers were Zane Brook and Torin Brook.

Services were entrusted to Hemmingsen Funeral Home of Auburn.
