SUNDA KAY (HEROLD) DOIEL

1942-2023

Sunda Kay (Herold) Doiel, one of eight children of Wayne and Winifred (Faye) Herold, was born May 29, 1942, in Shenandoah, Iowa. The family moved around when Sunda was a child before settling in Nebraska City and then eventually Auburn.

Sunda helped with taking care of her younger siblings and nieces and nephews before she was married. Sunda was married for a time but would later divorce. She was the mother of four children: John, Steven, Terry, and Lauri.

Sunda was employed at the Campbell Soup Company at Tecumseh. After retiring from Campbell’s, Sunda moved back in with her mother to help take care of her in her later years.

After the passing of her mother, Sunda moved into the High Rise in Auburn where she enjoyed going to Bible Study and BINGO. After living at the High Rise, Sunda moved to Westbury Apartments where she made many friends and thoroughly enjoyed her time there.

On the morning of Friday, August 25, 2023, Sunda passed away at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha. She was preceded in death by her parents Winifred (Faye) and Wayne Herold; son Steven Doiel; granddaughter Tierra Doiel; sisters Gloria Helms, Romelle Copenhaver, Darla Stukenholtz, Gayle Herold- Watton; brother Courtney Herold; and niece Rachel (Mc-Mann) Curry.

Those left to mourn Sunda’s passing include her children John Doiel of MO, Terry (Sheryl) Doiel of Auburn, Lauri (Troy) Johnson of MN; grandchildren Anissa (Matthew S) Johnson, Brittney Johnson, William Johnson all of MN, Phoenix and Twesdae Doiel of MO; siblings Carter (Dorothy) Herold of Nebraska City, Mike (Paula Mullins) Herold of Rock Port, MO; niece Alicia McMann of Auburn; numerous other nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life was held Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at the Auburn Eagles Club. Mike Herold was urn bearer. Burial of ashes will take place at a later date in Sheridan West Cemetery at Auburn.

Services were entrusted to Hemmingsen Funeral Home of Auburn.
