ROBERT “BOB” GONZALES

1946-2023

Robert “Bob” D. Gonzales, 77, passed away peacefully in his Auburn, Nebraska home on October 6th, 2023. A Vietnam veteran and a U.S. Postal Service supervisor retiree. Bob was a devout Catholic who grew up in Colorado before residing his final years in Nebraska. He was a Knights of Columbus member as well as a charitable man who believed in giving back to the community. He was a devoted husband who loved his wife and family dearly. He will be missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Barbara Gonzales, his children Christopher Gonzales, Todd Mertes(Kristy), Carla Cross, Leslie Hart (Bob); his grandchildren Brianna Gonzales, Christopher Mertes (Kerry), Courtney Stevens (Guy), Kelli Mertes (Corbin), Ryan Mertes (Courtney), Lindsey Mertes, Trent Mertes (Peyton), Kara Mertes, Trevor Mertes, and Tyler Bears; great-grandchildren Mariah, Emery, Malin, Charlie, Jonathan, Avery, Callum, Maci, Avery, and Emma; his siblings Dick Gonzales (Becki), Paul Gonzales, Dave Gonzales (Virginia), Ted Sandoval, and Rachel Chavez.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Masedonia and Alice; his oldest son Robert Gonzales Jr.; brothers, Louie Sandoval and Art Sandoval; sisters, Patty Gonzales, Barb Higa, Genevieve Masiss, and Molly Masiss.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, October 11, 11:00 a.m. at St Joseph Catholic Church in Auburn. Rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be at the funeral home Tuesday 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Burial will be Wednesday, 1:30 p.m. at the Omaha National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, monetary donations can be made in his honor to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation.

Services are entrusted to Hemmingsen Funeral Home of Auburn.
