LONNIE ROYCE MEHLIN

1949-2023

Lonnie Royce Mehlin, 74, passed away peacefully in Albuquerque, NM on December 21,2023 surrounded by family and loved ones.

Lonnie was born to Robert and Lola Mehlin on August 4, 1949 in Humboldt, Nebraska. He was the middle of three children and was raised on farms in Richardson and Nemaha county. Lonnie attended elementary school at Bratton Union Consolidated School and in Julian and graduated from Brock High School in 1967. He attended the University of Nebraska for two years and was then drafted into the US Army. He served with distinction, spending most of his service with the United States Army Support Group, Joint Security Force at Panmunjom, Korea. After returning from the Army, he worked at the Lincoln Telephone Company for several years before moving to New Mexico. Following his graduation from New Mexico State University he worked for the Los Alamos National Laboratories until his retirement in 2021. He was an avid fly fisherman and a talented woodworker and enjoyed many outdoor activities. In retirement, he spent time tying his own flies, building and working on projects and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his daughter, Becky Mehlin, brother Randall (Donna), sister Bobbi Holm (Kent), significant other Kathy Sims and her family, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews, along with many valued friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Karen Mehlin, his parents Robert and Lola Mehlin, and infant daughter Molly.

A memorial to celebrate his life will be announced at a later date. The family wishes to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers, and help throughout this difficult time.
