LINDA MARIE WOLKEN

1960-2019

Linda Marie Wolken, 58, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Kansas City.

She was born to Marion and Arlene (Buente) Wolken on September 28, 1960 in Tecumseh, Nebraska. Linda was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Tecumseh. She remained in the Christian faith until her passing. Linda grew up on the family farm located near Johnson, Nebraska. She enjoyed the outdoors, helping with gardening and canning, raising lambs, pets, attending Teens for Christ Youth events, and being with family and friends. She attended Johnson Brock Public School from kindergarten through graduation in 1978. She continued her education at Northwest Missouri State University. Linda received her Bachelor of Science in Education, Home Economics in May of 1982. She completed her Masters Degree from Mid America Nazarene University in Olathe, Kansas in 1993.

Linda’s first teaching position was at Virginia CUSD #64 High School in Virginia, Illinois. After two years, she moved closer to home, accepting a teaching position at Basehor-Linwood USD 458 Middle School in Basehor, Kansas. In the fall of 1986, Linda took a teaching position at Turner USD 202 High School where she taught Family and Consumer Science classes for the next 33 years. She was looking forward to the next school year where an industrial kitchen was being installed and she was going to head a catering program for the students at Turner High School. Linda had a passion for teaching her students life skills and coaching track athletes. She was active in the Turner High School K-Club and assisted at many school functions throughout her career.

In her spare time, Linda enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading, crafts, pets, traveling, watching sports, especially Nebraska football, KC Royals, and KC Chiefs. Linda was extremely fond of her two nieces Claire and Sophie, and spoiled them at every opportunity. She cherished the title of “the Fun Aunt”.

Linda is survived by her brother, Roger and wife Janet (Cassidy) Wolken of Savannah, Missouri; nieces, Claire and husband Caleb Murray of Kansas City, Mo., and Sophia Wolken of Savannah, Mo.; aunts, Aladene Buente of St. Joseph, Mo., Helen Silva of Omaha and Frances Wolken of Tecumseh; uncle, David Wolken of Lincoln, numerous cousins and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marion and Arlene, paternal grandparents D.A. and Louise Wolken and maternal grandparents Conrad and Clara Buente.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 24, 2019 at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Tecumseh, with Rev. Marcel Kohlmeyer officiating.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with family greeting friends 5-7 p.m. Thursday, August 22. The register book will also be available from 9-5 Friday at the Wherry Mortuary, Tecumseh.

Memorials can be directed to the Turner Foundation designated to the Track and Field Team or to Wayside Waifs in Kansas City.

Inurnment will be in the Tecumseh Cemetery, Tecumseh.
