LAVERDA (SCHUETTE) BERGMANN
LaVerda Nadine Schuette was born April 10, 1924 on the family farm south of Johnson, Nebraska. She was one of three children of Henry J. and Ella (Behrends) Schuette. LaVerda was baptized May 4, 1924 and confirmed November 6, 1938, both by Rev. Wm. Fruehling at Martin Luther Lutheran Church south of Johnson. She attended Febring School District #42 near her home.
On December 8, 1943 LaVerda was united in marriage to Martin Bergmann at Martin Luther Church by Rev. Fruehling. They made their home on a farm in Nemaha County, and were blessed with two children, LeRoy and Patricia. The couple moved into Auburn, Nebraska in 1988.
LaVerda was first and foremost a homemaker, but she also worked outside of the home: at WoodCarv Manufacturing in Auburn for several years and then making salads for the salad bar at Wheeler Inn in Auburn. She also volunteered for many years at the Good Samaritan Society-Auburn doing hair for residents.
LaVerda became a member of St. Paul Lutheran (Hickory Grove) Church after her marriage. She was involved with the Sunday school program, sang in the church choir, and active in Ruth Naomi Circle.
LaVerda loved music and as a young woman played piano in a dance band. She enjoyed sewing and playing cards and was known for her chocolate chip cookies. Her grandkids, greats, and great-greats were very special to her.
Recently becoming a resident of the Good Samaritan Society-Auburn, it was there LaVerda passed away on Monday, November 11, 2019 at the age of 95 years, 7 months, and 1 day. She was preceded in death by her husband Martin, son LeRoy, brother Marvin, and sister Luella Volkmann.
LaVerda is survived by her daughter Patricia and husband Larry Holtzman of Auburn; daughter-in-law Kathy Bergmann of Nevada, I0wa; grandchildren Stephanie Fisher, Lisa and husband Jay Norlinger, Gabriel Holtzmann, Charles Bergmann; 9 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
A funeral service, officiated by Rev. Paul Lillenas, was Saturday, November 16, 2019 at St. Paul Lutheran (Hickory Grove) Church near Auburn. Deanne Gerking was organist and accompanist for congregational hymns and a solo by Allyn Remmers.
Casket bearers were Stephanie Fisher, Lisa Norlinger, Gabriel Holtzman, Charles Bergmann, Reid Fisher, and Aaron Norlinger. Honorary bearers were Hailey Fisher, Abby Norlinger, Nora Norlinger, Andrew Holtzman, Cora Holtzman, Easton Bergmann, Basil Bergmann, Jaxson Murray, Emerson Murray, and Madison Murray.
Burial was in St. Paul (Hickory Grove) Cemetery.
Services were entrusted to Hemmingsen Funeral Home of Auburn.
