LARRY W. IKENBERRY

1942-2022

Larry W. Ikenberry, 80 of Palmyra, passed away at home on December 1, 2022. He was born on June 16, 1942, in Palmyra to Charles & Hilda (Neeman) Ikenberry. Larry graduated from Palmyra High School in 1959, then attended the Lincoln School of Commerce. On April 19, 1963, he married Lois Meyer of Syracuse at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Otoe.

Larry worked over 50 years in various positions with Peel’s Salon Services, including equipment sales, management, and 10 years selling cars with Peel’s Auto, Inc. Larry also farmed on the family farm near Palmyra for many years. Larry served on the town board in Palmyra and church boards for Beautiful Savior in Palmyra and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Eagle. He also belonged to various car clubs and restored over 20 classic cars and trucks. Larry also loved music, working outdoors, and adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Larry’s family and friends will remember his humor, patience, positive outlook, and his ability to communicate with people.

He is survived by his wife: Lois; children: Debbie (Dale) Damme of Talmage, Sheri (Russel) Moss of Burr, Charles (Kristen) Ikenberry of Runnells, IA; grandchildren: Clayton (Ana) Damme of Syracuse; Clint (Kathleen) Damme of Talmage; Makayla Damme of Omaha & friend Nick Stahl of Auburn; Emily (Fredrick) Rumery of Unadilla, David (Tarryn) Moss of Lincoln, James, Walter, Joseph, Eve & Natalie Ikenberry of Runnells, IA; great grandchildren: Romy and Desmond Damme, Halle Damme and brother to be born in February, Gavin and Olivia Rumery, Cayson Ike Moss; sister: Lucy Ann (Bill) Reuter-Masek; brotherin- law: Lynn (Cindy) Meyer; sisters-in-law Ruby Meyer and Kathy Meyer; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law Rudolph Meyer, mother-inlaw Minnie (Sporhase) Meyer, half-sisters: Maurine, Vivian, Charlene & Ethel (Ikenberry); uncle: Walter Neeman, and brothers-in-law: Arlin Reuter and Leonard, Ervin, Norman, Ivan, Wayne & Dennis (Meyer).

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Dec. 5 at 10:30 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Eagle, Nebraska. The service will be livestreamed on the Immanuel Lutheran Church – Eagle, NE Facebook page. Burial will be held at the Rosewood Cemetery in Palmyra.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, Dec. 4 from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home in Syracuse.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Eagle.
