Jerry grew up in Sidney, Iowa, graduating from high school there in 1975. After high school, Jerry enlisted in the United States Navy. After 4 years of service, Jerry then transferred to Naval Reserve and served 2 more years until his honorable discharge in 1981.

After his discharge from the Navy, Jerry moved to Auburn, Nebraska, where he would meet his future bride, Dee Ann Pohlman in the winter of 1982. Jerry and Dee were united in marriage on September 19, 1987, in Tecumseh at the home of Dee’s brother. They made their home in Auburn, and were blessed with the addition of two children, Alex and Nikki.

On the morning of Tuesday, December 19, 2023, Jerry unexpectedly passed away at his home in Auburn, having reached the age of 67 years, 4 months, and 18 days. Besides his wife, Dee, Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Bob.
