Jeffrey Wayne Boyd, son of Joe E. and D. Katherine (Dusch) Boyd, was born May 8, 1953 in Anna, Illinois. He grew up and attended school in Anna, graduating from Anna-Jonesboro High School in 1971. Jeff entered the United States Navy on March 23, 1972. He served on the USS El Paso LKA 117 and on the submarine USS Daniel Webster during his service. Jeff received his honorable discharge on March 22, 1978, and returned to Anna. While still in the service, Jeff was united in marriage to Trena Dillow on June 14, 1975 in Anna. The couple made their first home in Groton, Connecticut. They moved back to Anna, which is when their daughter Kimberly was born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. A short time later, the family moved to Auburn, Nebraska in December of 1978. They were blessed with two more children while in Auburn, Sheryl and Andrew. Upon moving to Auburn, Jeff began work at Cooper Nuclear Station near Brownville, Nebraska as a station operator. During his time at Cooper, he served as reactor operator, senior reactor operator, shift manager, and nuclear instructor. He retired in 2016 after 37 years, 7 months, and 7 days with the plant. Jeff enjoyed woodworking, more in the line of carpentry rather than smaller scale projects. He was a fix-it guy, and liked to tinker with electronics also. He was an avid reader in down time. Jeff was preceded in death by his grandparents Claud and Mary Boyd and Wayne and Alice Dusch, and his father-in-law Harold “Cotton” Dillow. Those left to remember Jeff’s loving ways include his wife Trena of Auburn, Neb.; daughters and son-in-law Kimberly Boyd of Coralville, Iowa; Sheryl and Tim Thiele of Henderson, Nevada; son Andrew Boyd of Eureka, Illinois; granddaughter Lillian Thiele; parents Joe and Katherine Boyd of Anna, Ill,; sister and brother-in-law Jenifer and Dwayne Fields of Carterville, Ill.; mother-in-law Norma Jean Conant of Anna, Ill.; brother- and sister-in-law Jerry and Cathy Dillow of Jonesboro, Ill.; other relatives and many friends. A Celebration of Life visitation will be at the funeral home in Auburn Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Family members will be present throughout the day to reminisce and listen to stories about Jeff when offered. A funeral service will be Monday, January 22, 10:30 a.m., at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro, Illinois. Burial will follow in the Anna, Illinois Cemetery. Local services are entrusted to Hemmingsen Funeral Home of Auburn.
