JANET MARIE (BROWN) ATKINSON

1941-2023

Janet Marie (Brown) Atkinson of Auburn, Nebraska, was born February 21, 1941 in Centerville, Appanoose County, Iowa to Harry and Garnet (Mericle) Brown.

She attended school in Centerville, Iowa, graduating with the class of 1960. On June 5, 1960, Janet was united in marriage to Elmer Lee Atkinson at the First Baptist Church in Centerville, Iowa. Two daughters were born to them, Rhonda and Cathy. They would later divorce. Janet received her associate’s degree from Indian Hills Community College, Ottumwa campus in 1972. She had a variety of jobs during her long life, Head Start in Centerville, Iowa, Smith Laundry in Albia, Iowa, and lastly Bobby Page Cleaners in Carson City, Nevada.

Janet moved from Centerville, Iowa to Carson City, Nevada to be closer to her sister following the death of their mother in 1984, she lived there until 2005. In 2005 she retired from working after surviving the first of three-brain aneurysm’s, and moved to Auburn, Nebraska to be closer to her daughters. Janet had many hobbies and interests, among her favorite pass times were spending time with her best friend and sister Delores (Brown) Wenzel, crocheting, embordering, reading, watching volleyball and NCIS, and going on lots of family vacations to Iowa and Nevada.

Janet passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 13, 2023, at her home having reached the earthly age of 82years, 7 months and 22 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Garnet Brown, sister and brother -in-law Delores and Garry Wenzel, and son-in-law Brent G. Johnson.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Rhonda L. Johnson and Cathy L. Atkinson (Brian) of rural Auburn, grand-daughter Chelsea G. Johnson (Jared) of Lincoln, Nebraska, along with nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Cremation will be accorded, ashes spread at a later date, no services are planned.
