IDA MAY GARVER

1936-2021

Ida May Garver, only child of Cecil and Elsie (Skillet) Cooney, was born May 9, 1936, on a farm south of Peru, Nebraska. Ida May grew up and attended grade school in Nemaha and graduated from Brownville High School in 1954. After graduating high school, Ida May went off to Omaha for college.

On March 23, 1958, Ida May was united in marriage to Charles Raymond Garver at the home of Rev. Kiefer in Auburn, Nebraska. They made their home in Nemaha County and would be blessed with two daughters, Teresa and Susan.

While in Omaha, Ida May was employed at Mutual of Omaha. She also waited tables at the Brownville House and worked at Good Samaritan Society in Auburn early in life. Ida May was then employed at Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville, while also helping Raymond around the farm and running the household.

In her spare time, Ida May loved gardening. She grew flowers and also vegetables that she then canned to enjoy throughout the year. Ida May enjoyed shopping with friends and was an animal-lover.

After Raymond’s passing in 2016, and her health no longer allowed her to stay on the farm, Ida May moved to Stilwell, Kansas to live with her daughter, Susan. It was there that she passed away on Friday, April 23, 2021, having reached the age of 84 years, 11 months, and 14 days. Along with her parents and husband Raymond, Ida May was preceded in death by her sisterand brother-in-law Carolyn and Joe Reilly.

Those left to remember her caring ways include her daughters Teresa Garver of Auburn, Susan and husband Andy Stoner of Stilwell, Kansas; other relatives and friends.

A graveside funeral service was held Friday, April 30, 2021, at Prairie Union Cemetery near Shubert, officiated by Rev. Bob Chitwood. Serving as honorary bearers were Rodney Gauchat, Lynn Rogge, John Montanelli, Teresa Walker, and Marty and Allison Hayes.

Services were entrusted to Hemmingsen Funeral Home of Auburn.
