ESTHER M. (SUNNEBERG) VAN GUNDY 1924-2016

Esther M. (Sunneberg) Van Gundy, 92, widow of Al Van Gundy of Beaver Crossing, passed away suddenly December 3, 2016, at her home. She was born April 5, 1924, in rural Axtell, Kansas. Esther was a former member of St. Teresa’s Catholic Church, Lincoln and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Beaver Crossing. She is survived by children and spouses: Michael and Peggy Van Gundy, St. Louis, Mo.; Terry and Lorry Van Gundy, Auburn; and Janel and Lenny Monroe, Lincoln; nine grandchildren and spouses: Justin and Jennifer Van Gundy, Overland Park, Kan.; Alison and Dr. Joshua Nadaud, St. Louis, Mo.; Emily and Ben Stockwell, St. Louis, Mo.; Staci and Joe Edgington, Seward; Brook Van Gundy, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Hannah Van Gundy and Terry Jones, both of Brownville; Summer and Aaron Wells, St. Paul; Bryson and Kendra Monroe, Lincoln; and Brianne and Justin Hladky, Lincoln; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Elsie Sunneberg, Pawnee City; Regis and Jane Sunneberg, Topeka, Kan.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Norene and Gene Lackey, Lincoln; Gerva Sunneberg, Topeka, Kan.; Alberta and Gene Carpenter, Bellevue; Janice and Jerry Heinen, Topeka, Kan.; sister-in-law, Marie Sunneberg, Pawnee City; and many nieces, nephews. Esther was preceded in death by parents; husband, Al; brothers Gerald and Bob Sunneberg; sisters, Rosie Whimer, Joan Lackey, and infant sister, Bernita. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, Beaver Crossing. Memorials may be designated to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Salvation Army, and Beaver Crossing Volunteer Fire Department & Rescue.
