ERHARDT H. “SLIM” STEINMAN

1926-2018

 

Erhardt H. “Slim” Steinman, age 91 of Nebraska City died February 23, 2018 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Lincoln. Slim was born July 5, 1926 in Byron, Nebraska the son of Rudolph and Anna (Haferman) Steinman. Six months after their initial blind date, he married the love of his life, Margaret Trumble on May 23, 1959 in Papillion. Margaret died January 1, 2005. Slim formerly lived in Strang and Deshler before moving to Nebraska City in 1946, after returning from World War II where he served stateside with the Army Air Corps. He was a self-employed mechanic and jack of all trades before he started working for the Nebraska Department of Roads as a mechanic for 25 years, retiring in 1989. Slim was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a Boy Scout Leader for many years. He was awarded the Boy Scouts Silver Beaver Award. He was an active member of Western Star Lodge No. 2, A.F. & A.M. and recently received his 60-year pin. Slim was a lifetime member of the Nebraska City Jaycees and was one of the founders of the Arbor Day Fly In Breakfast. He was very active in the Nebraska City Jaycees July 4th Celebration and the Nebraska City Food Pantry. Slim was a past recipient of the Nebraska City Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Service Award, Optimist of the Year as well as numerous awards from the Nebraska Jaycees and Nebraska City Jaycees. Survivors include his sons, Jeff Steinman, Jerry Steinman and wife Glenda, Daryl Steinman and wife Laura, all of Nebraska City; three grandchildren, Loren, Shawnna and Aleaha, all of Lincoln; brother, Raymond Steinman and wife Elsie of Lincoln; sister, Alvina Blaikie of Lincoln; sister in law, Judy Frederick and husband Roy of Lincoln; brother in law, Charles Trumble and wife Marion of Papillion; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife and infant son, Loren Dale. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church in Nebraska City. Visitations will be 1:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday at the church with the family greeting friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. A masonic service will be held at the church at 7:00 P.M. Graveside services will be 2:30 P.M. Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at the Cedar Dale Cemetery in Papillion. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church or the family’s choice.
