ELEANOR Y. ADAMSON
Eleanor was born on November 9, 1925 to Ed and Wiebrie (Winga) Yates in Auburn, NE, and passed away on April 1st, 2019, surrounded by loving family in her own home.
She grew up in Auburn, became quite the independent personality, enjoyed all forms of music, backyard sports, and had a strong desire for exploring and adventure. She graduated from Auburn High School.
She married Thomas J. Adamson, Jr. on July 21, 1945 in Auburn where they lived and raised their three young daughters on the Adamson family farm. They moved their family to Lincoln in 1958, enjoying a full and active life together until Tom passed away prematurely in 1981.
Eleanor was very involved in the First Presbyterian Church in Auburn and in the Nebraska Mrs. Jaycee’s organization in both Auburn and Lincoln. She volunteered countless hours as a Bluebird and Campfire leader, for all three girls, in both locations as well. And, she was a 50 year member of the Electa Chapter #8 Order of Eastern Star.
While living in Lincoln, she was quite active at Westminster Presbyterian Church, serving in a variety of positions, including the Adult Choir, Bell Choir, the Wedding Committee, as a Deacon, and as an Elder on the Session. She also holds an Honorary Life Membership with Presbyterian Women (Presbyterian Church USA).
Eleanor was a member of P.E.O., Chapter DL for 32 years and thoroughly enjoyed the relationships built with her PEO sisters through attending meetings, serving in the offices, and participating with a very special group of women in a Bible study.
Most of all, Eleanor enjoyed Nebraska Football and Volleyball, and she was quite proud of her Husker personalized license plate, “HSKR FAN”! She took great pleasure in golfing, attending OLLI classes, and was a world traveler. Her favorite trips were to the Holy Land. When Tom was alive, they took pleasure in the Shrine Sesostris Temple activities - especially the Little Cars Unit which performed in parades all over the state of Nebraska. She often enjoyed attending performances at the Lincoln Community Playhouse and Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra.
Eleanor treasured her time with family, and was especially proud of her grandchildren and great-grandkids! This last Christmas was a joy to be remembered, as numerous family members were gathered around Eleanor to celebrate the birth of Jesus and the richness of our family ties.
Eleanor is survived by her daughters, Catherine Adamson, of Lincoln, and Susan Ballew, of Loveland, CO and her daughter and son-inlaw, Nancy and Bob Leavitt, of Lincoln; grandchildren, Cory (Roger) McCune, Jeff (Danielle) Adamson, Brian (Lisa) Leavitt, Bryce Ballew and Kyle (Erin) Ballew and great-grandchildren, Kaylee Adamson, Connor Adamson, Mircalla McCune, Revan McCune, and Cooper Ballew. She is also survived by her younger sister, Edna Bachle, of Auburn, NE, and several very special cousins and nephews. Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Adamson, of Lincoln, her parents, Ed and Wiebrie Yates, of Casa Grande, AZ, her sister and brother-in-law Lola and Korah Baker, of Casa Grande, AZ, her brother-in-law, Chester Bachle, of Auburn, NE, and two nephews that were taken way too soon.
Interment will be at Glen Rock Cemetery on April 6th near Brock, NE at 10:30. Funeral services will be at 4:00 on April 6th at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2110 Sheridan Blvd. in Lincoln.
