ELDA M. L. RHINESHART

Elda Marie Lina Rhineshart was born September 30, 1917, on a farm near Nemaha, Nebraska to Wilhelm and Lydia (Hahn) Grube, the oldest of four children. She passed away, Monday, January 16, 2017, at the Heritage Crossings Care Center in Geneva at the age of 99 years three months and 30 days. She was baptized as an infant at the Zion Lutheran Church in Johnson, Nebraska. As a young girl, Elda attended country school and graduated from Johnson High School. Following graduation and prior to her marriage, Elda helped her parents with the farm responsibilities.

“Marie”, as she was affectionately known, was united in marriage to William Rhineshart on May 26, 1939, and to this union a daughter, Shirley was born. They made their home in Auburn and later moved to Lincoln, where Elda was a kitchen supervisor at Abel Hall at the University of Nebraska. She retired after 40 years at the age of 90. Marie was a hard worker and never complained, even during various surgeries and after suffering a broken arm. She continued to be active at her home in Lincoln until recently when she moved to the Legacy Assisted Living Center in Lincoln and later at the Heritage Crossings in Geneva. Marie enjoyed her pets, especially her dog “John” and her cat “Blackie.” Her favorite holiday was Christmas and she enjoyed treating family and friends at her favorite restaurant, the Olive Garden. Marie loved shopping for bargains and spending time at the mall. She was a great cook and was known for her excellent mashed and scalloped potatoes as well as her peanut balls. She would often be heard saying with a smile, “I’ll keep that in mind.”

She is survived by her granddaughters and spouses, Kim and Kurt Hirth, Arlington, Virginia; Dawn M. and Jed Henry, Omaha; Jill and James Cunningham, Geneva; four great-grandchildren, Abigail and Dylan Tvrdy, Omaha; Nathanial Cunningham, Geneva; Jolene and Grace Henry, Omaha; a great-great-grandson, Finnley Tvrdy, Omaha; sister-in-law, Leona Grube, Lincoln; son-in-law, Howard Ach and his wife, Marilyn, Friend; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William in 1995, daughter, Shirley Ach in 1998, brothers, Leroy and Eugene Grube, sister, Della Vaughn.

A funeral service was held Saturday, January 21, 2017, at Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Friend, with Pastor Paixao Baptista officiating. Interment was in the Nemaha Cemetery. Memorials have been established and are directed in care of the family. Pallbearers are Kurt Hirth, Jed Henry, James Cunningham, Nathaniel Cunningham.
