DELBERT G. DREWEL

1931-2023

Delbert George Drewel, son of Fred and Leona (Weber) Drewel, was born December 28, 1931, on the family farm near Brock, Nebraska. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church of Talmage Nebraska.

Delbert attended Spring Valley Country School and then Brock Public School, graduating in 1949.

On August 7, 1955, Delbert was united in marriage to Bonnie Rider in Nemaha Nebraska. They were blessed with two children, Doug and June.

As a lifetime member of Zion United Church of Christ, Delbert served on the Church Board. He also served on the Talmage Rural Fire District Board.

Delbert farmed his entire life, even after “retirement”, he enjoyed trucking the harvest to the grain bins and to the elevator in Talmage. He enjoyed anhydrous trucking to get to visit with friends. Delbert also enjoyed raising a garden to have fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, and radishes from the farm.

After helping with one final harvest, Delbert spent his last two weeks in the care of doctors and medical staff of Syracuse Area Health and Traditions Health Hospice Care. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on the evening of December 2, 2023, having reached the age of 91 years, 11 months, and 4 days. He is preceded in death by his wife Bonnie, Parents, Parents-in-law, Edward & Ruth (Elliott) (Rider) Tobin, Step-father-in-law, Ed Tobin, Sister Dorothy (Dennis) Gerdes, Brothers-in-law James (Marjorie) Rider, Maurice Rider, Dale Rider, son Doug and grandson Todd Brinkman.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter June (Lyle) Brinkman; granddaughter Sarah (Thomas) Van Boening; sisters-in-law Barbara Madison, Tari Rider; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

A funeral service was held Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at Zion United Church of Christ in Talmage, officiated by Rev. Carla Patterson. Joyce Nowack played accompaniment for congregational hymns. Mark Nowack, Mark Patterson, Rod Gerdes, Dillon Niedermeyer, Kip Edmonds, and Steve Kinnison served as casket bearers. Burial followed in St. Paul’s United Church of Christ (Osage) Cemetery near Cook.

Services were entrusted to Hemmingsen Funeral Home of Auburn.
