DARYL GAUCHAT

1957-2019

Daryl Jo Gauchat, one of 8 children of Lloyd and Clara E. (Hoover) Gauchat, was born May 27, 1957 in Auburn, Nebraska. He graduated from Johnson-Brock High School in 1975.

Following graduation, Daryl enlisted in the United States Navy. He served mostly on the USS Richard E. Byrd as a Machinist’s Mate. Daryl was honorably discharged on May 21, 1979 designated as MM3. He returned to Nemaha County after his discharge.

Daryl worked at various jobs in the area after his military service. Some of those jobs included as a Boiler Operator at Peru State College and on assembly lines at Auburn Consolidated Industries and Triangle Pacific Cabinets in Auburn. He served many years on the Auburn Rescue Squad on Auburn Volunteer Fire Department. Daryl also was a dedicated storm chaser in Nemaha County.

On August 24, 2019 Daryl was admitted to the University on Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. It was there he passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2019 at the age of 62 years, 2 months, and 29 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Aralon Oestmann, and sister-in-law Juliann Gauchat.

Daryl is survived by his children and spouses Trent and Crystal Puhalla of Firth; Nathan and Beverly Gauchat of Pratt, Kansas; Travis and Kristina Gauchat of Omaha; Jared Gauchat of Omaha; Kristen Gauchat of Omaha; 12 grandchildren; siblings and spouses Gary and Sandi Gauchat of Lincoln; Kathy Oestmann of Johnson; Rick and Ruby Gauchat of Tabor, Iowa; Rosemary Gray of Croydon, Pennsylvania; Teresa Stephens of Rushville, Missouri; Rodney Gauchat of Brownville; Becky Gauchat of Peru; other relatives and friends.

A funeral service, officiated by Rev. John Henderson, was Saturday, August 31, 2019 at Hemmingsen Funeral Home. Casket bearers were Daryl’s nieces and nephews. Military honors were provided by American Legion Post #23 of Auburn and U.S. Navy Honors Detail.

Daryl’s body will be cremated and burial of ashes will be at a later date at Lafayette Cemetery near Brock.

Services were entrusted to Hemmingsen Funeral Home of Auburn.
