CHARLES J. “CHUCK” HALL, JR., Ph.D.

Charles (Chuck) Joseph Hall Jr. was born in Humboldt, Nebraska to Verna (Parriott) and Charles J. Hall, Sr. on Oct. 29, 1945. Chuck grew up and lived in Pawnee City, Nebraska, and attended Pawnee City High School. He received his undergraduate degree at Doane University and later completed his Ph.D. in History.

After college, Chuck served in the Peace Corps in India from 1968-1970. He married Catherine in 1970 and to this union one daughter, Sarah, was born. In 1982, Chuck moved to San Antonio, Texas, and worked as an investment banker until he retired.

He was an active member of St. Monica Catholic Church in San Antonio. In his free time, he enjoyed drives in the country, cruises, exploring nature, loved cats, and gardening, and was an avid reader. He was known for his charm and outgoing nature, he loved to make people laugh. He never missed an opportunity to drive to Nebraska for the annual Memorial Day dinner with family. Chuck loved his family dearly and cherished his phone conversations and visits he had with them. Chuck could be found having deep history conversations wherever he went.

Chuck passed away on the evening of April 11, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents Charlie and Verna Hall.

He is survived by his daughter Sarah Moses and grandchildren Jacob and Kenneth Moses of DeKalb, Illinois, his sisters, Joanie (Stan) Strohm of Marshall, N.C., and Patricia (Trish) Merrill and husband Mac White of Austin, Texas, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A graveside funeral service will be held Saturday, April 23, 2022, 11:00 a.m. at Prairie Union Cemetery near Shubert. A luncheon will follow at Prairie Union Baptist Church across the road. Visitation will be at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn Friday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends 6:00 to 8:00.
