CAROL W. ANDERSON

1925-2023

Carol Wayne Anderson, 97, of Humboldt, Nebraska, passed away on Friday, July 21, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Society-Auburn. He was born in Humboldt to Carl and Emma (Orr) Anderson, on August 12, 1925. He was just 22 days shy of reaching his 98th birthday. Carol also had an older brother Mervin of Kansas City, KS. Carol attended School District No. 105 Richardson County for grade school where he received several awards for punctuality and regular attendance. He then attended Bratton Union Schools until his junior year, when he transferred to Humboldt High School, graduating with the class of 1943. He lettered in basketball and track and served as editor of the 1943 Red and White yearbook staff. Carol then attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln where he took general studies and ag-related courses.

Carol served in the United States Army for two years. He did his basic training in Texas and was then stationed in the Philippines in Manila during World War II. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the Philippine Independence Ribbon, and the World War II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged in December 1946.

Carol met his future wife, Sylvia Dvorak of Pawnee City, at a dance at the ZCBJ Hall in Table Rock. They were united in marriage on June 25, 1951, at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Ward Merritt. They lived on a farm northeast of Humboldt and celebrated 66 years of marriage. To this union, two children were born: Judy and Jerry.

Carol was a devoted and dedicated farmer all of his life, even in to his 90’s. He raised cattle, chickens, and hogs and also had fields of corn, milo, and soybeans. Carol was a member of the Southeast Nebraska Quad County Pork Producers. He and his son also raised SPF swine for a number of years. They received several local and state awards for their swine. Carol and Sylvia were honored FFA Chapter Farmers in 1976, were recognized as Aksarben Pioneer Family award winners also in 1976 and received the local Conservation Award for excellence in soil conservation work in 1985.

Besides farming, Carol loved gardening and shared much of his produce with friends. He enjoyed reading newspapers and farm magazines, visiting with neighbors, and watching a variety of game shows on television, including Shark Tank. He also enjoyed playing cards, and was an avid Husker, Chiefs, and Royals fan, and even celebrated his 94th birthday at a Royals game.

Carol was a very sharp individual, even in to his 90’s and recalled much past and current local, state, and national information. Carol accepted Jesus as his savior and liked family prayer time. Carol will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and neighbors. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. Let’s keep him alive in the love he left behind and smile when we remember him. Carol will always live in our memories that we cherish.
