Health Alerts for Two Nemaha NRD Lakes

Health Alerts for Two Nemaha NRD Lakes

EFFECTIVE THURSDAY, August 19, both Iron Horse Trail Lake and Wirth Brothers Lake are on health alert again due to high levels of toxic, blue-green algae. Duck Creek and Kirkman’s Cove are NOT on health alert. Always be aware that levels can change daily, but staff only test once a week. So stay away from any water that has a bright green, slimy coating; and if you encounter it, rinse skin immediately and thoroughly and keep pets and children from swallowing the water. Both lakes will remain on health alert for at least a week or until levels come back down below allowable limits.

Biden Administration to Invest $67 Million to Help Heirs Resolve Land Ownership, Succession Issues

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is providing $67 million in competitive loans through the new Heirs’ Property Relending Program (HPRP), which aims to help agricultural producers and landowners resolve heirs’ land ownership and succession issues. Intermediary lenders - cooperatives, credit unions, and nonprofit organizations – can apply for loans up to $5 million at 1 percent interest once the Farm Service Agency (FSA) opens the two-month signup window in late August.
