Zaruba: APS Board Will Reopen Search for School Superintendent Next Fall

The Auburn Public Schools (APS) superintendent search is on hold. Dr. Mike Zaruba, school board president, said the board has elected to reopen the search for a permanent replacement for Kevin Reiman in the fall. It followed a long discussion at a Monday, Feb. 18 work session. Zaruba stated waiting until later this year allows the school board a better chance of obtaining a larger number as well as more quality applicants. The school board president notes plans are to move forward with resuming the search around November. It is hoped to hire a superintendent before Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020, he said. No additional work sessions will be scheduled until fall, Zaruba said. The superintendent search had been discussed Feb. 18 with Shari Becker. She is director of education leadership search service with the Nebraska Association of School Boards (NASB). NASB is assisting the district in the search. Zaruba said while Becker gave the school board no firm number on the number of applicants, it was only around four of five. Friday, March 15 is the deadline for administrators to inform their current districts of their intentions for the coming year, the school board president noted. Besides all board members and Becker, the only others attending the work session were the administrators. Dr. Virginia Moon is serving as APS interim superintendent.
