Planning Underway

By David Swanson

The start of November means plans are underway to help Nemaha County residents in need during the 2017 holiday season.

Friday, Dec. 1, Nemaha County Hospital will be the location of Nemaha County Gives Back. It will be the fourth consecutive year the event will be at the hospital. Activities are scheduled from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

All proceeds will go towards helping county residents in need with holiday food and gift expenses. Last year, more than $17,000 was donated.

The funds will be helping four organizations this year. Southeast Nebraska Community Action, Region V Services Auburn (formerly Southeast Nebraska Developmental Services), Catholic Social Services and Shop With A Cop. Catholic Social Services was included in 2016 for the first time. New this year, Shop With a Cop encompasses a day for children with law enforcement officers with shopping and lunch included. Shop With a Cop was first held in the county last year. Law enforcement departments elsewhere have participated.
