Peru VFW Information Open House Rescheduled to Saturday Dec. 8th

Combat veterans living within the area are being invited to an open house Saturday, Dec. 8 in Peru. It will be from 1 to 4 p.m. at 721 5th St. The event was postponed after the Sunday, Nov. 25 blizzard.

John Liesback, Nebraska Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) adjutant/quartermaster, said the state organization will be trying to recruit people to restart the post in Peru.

Peru Post No. 7299 closed July 9, 2017 after years of declining membership and participation. There is no VFW post in Nemaha County, he stated.

“We know we had 30 to 40 (individuals) who used to belong. We are requesting those who were members or anyone wanting to join the post attend. We are asking those coming to bring their spouses and children. If we have a good turnout, we hope to restart the post and possibly start an Auxiliary. If there are seven or eight who are eligible, we may ask them to sign an application,” Liesback continued.
