Peru City Council Will Rent Temporary Water Treatment System

During an April 15 emergency meeting, the Peru City Council passed an ordinance to move ahead with a temporary solution addressing problems plaguing the city’s water supply since the flooding in March made the existing water treatment site inoperable.

The council determined that due to catastrophic flooding there has been a significant risk of injury, individual and family trauma, potential hazard to public health and well-being; as well as, significant public time and expense to promote and protect the health and safety of the residents and public, immediate action was necessary to move forward.

Information provided by Project Engineer Zach Schulz with JEO Consulting Group, contractors and manufacturers made it possible for the Peru City Council to make a decision on a way to move forward in providing safe water to the community’s residents and others. At present time, water is being hauled to the city at a significant cost and expense.

The council heard that operating a water treatment facility is necessary for the safety, health and welfare of residents of Peru.
