Mayor White Cancels Auburn Face Covering Proclamation May 21

Face coverings are no longer required at Auburn indoor public locations where social distancing is not always possible.

Friday morning, May 21, Mayor Dan White dropped the mask proclamation he issued nearly six months earlier.

The mayor’s action followed remarks to the Auburn Board of Health by Dr. Gary Ensz, city physician and Grant Bruggemann, Southeast District Health Department (SEDHD). White had wanted to consult with the physician before issuing a decision.

Bruggemann reported vaccination rates among individuals ages 16 years and older. There are 45.82 percent of Nemaha County residents and 46.73 percent of those who live in the five-county SEDHD fully inoculated. The health department also covers Johnson, Otoe, Pawnee and Richardson counties.
