Peru has joined a growing number of locations having lending libraries. A project two years in the making achieved fruition Saturday morning, June 5 during the city’s annual Old Man River Days festivities.

Tuesday Literacy Club members realized two years ago the organization was approaching its 100th anniversary, noted DiAnna Loy, club member. The Peru unit is among the three oldest book clubs in the Cornhusker State.

Loy continued the group wanted to give back to the community which has supported it for a century. It resulted in the Peru Free Book Exchange. Cecilia Marnell, another club member, reported the group meets monthly to enjoy good literature.

“We began talking about what we need to do before that wondrous day arrived. It took a long time to get everything done. We had no sense of urgency until we realized it was time to do it. Then, suddenly, here we are!,” Loy remarked.
