BPW Approves Professional Engineering Services with Olsson on Flooding Repair

Wednesday, Aug. 14, the Auburn Board of Public Works (BPW) selected Olsson to provide professional engineering services.

Olsson will assist with flood damage repair. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) requires a selection process in obtaining professional services. Estimates on costs will be forthcoming, states Dave Hunter, general manager.

The action followed a closed session to review proposals. Also submitting were HDR and JEO.

Hunter said working with FEMA involves a lot of paperwork in getting approval of the repair/mitigation projects. Those include roads to wells east of Auburn, and crossings over the Little Nemaha River and Longs Creek. The utility does not anticipate incurring costs which will not be reimbursed. BPW will have to decide whether to return damaged areas to their original condition or build up roads to wells to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
