Auburn City Council Meets Via Computer Technology

Although the April 13 Auburn City Council meeting took place in a different way than is the norm, the governing body still addressed a full agenda by the Zoom computer format to comply with restrictions as a result of COVID-19. Mayor Dan White, City Clerk/ Treasurer Sherry Heskett, City Attorney Angelo Ligouri, council members and others participated with the aid of their computers.

One of the first matters addressed that Monday night were resolutions involving the removal of nuisance structures, backfill and clean-up on two properties. The first property at 1118 8th Street is owned by Keith Williams. Attorney Ligouri explained a lengthy attempted mitigation process in which he has been involved dating back to September of 2018. Ligouri said Williams had indicated his intention to remove the nuisance, but he then encountered obstacles which made his improving the property not feasible.

The Lumberjack Co. of Nebraska City bid $6,500 to tear down the house, plug the sewer, clean up the property, straighten up the yard and re-seed it. The cost was to be assessed to the real estate and/or collected from its owner. The council unanimously passed the ordinance on a 6-0 vote.
