Auburn Cheerleaders Retain C-1 Non-Tumbling State Title

The Auburn High School (AHS) Bulldog cheerleaders are adding another accolade to the school’s trophy case.

Saturday afternoon, Feb. 20, the unit achieved its fourth consecutive Class C-1 non-tumbling state championship. It is the group’s fifth Class C-1 title in that category having also achieved two previous crowns in Class C. The competition took place at the State Cheer and Dance Championships at the Heartland Events Center in Grand Island.

Thoughts From Sponsor Joellen Hamann

“It was an exciting day/evening for us. I had 14 girls on the mat, nine of whom had never competed at the state championships. As coaches, we always just want our girls to compete, to go on the mat and give it everything they have. This year they did just that. They didn’t let their nerves get in the way and completely crushed their routine. They were led by four amazing captains: senior Shalyn Harris (the only AHS cheerleader to experience four straight championships); juniors Leah Grant and Jerzie Maher and sophomore Jessica Bowman.
