Auburn BPW Updates Nemaha County Commissioners on Possibly Supplying Water Long-Term to the City of Peru

The Nemaha County Commissioners were informed Wednesday morning, Sept. 30 on the Auburn Board of Public Works (BPW) possibly furnishing water long-term to the City of Peru.

Chair Bryan Mellage said the board has no issue with the utility using the county road right of way (ROW). Larry Holtzman, District 3 commissioner, asked about boring underneath roads.

Dave Hunter, BPW general manager, asked the commissioners if they had any concerns. He said the water line’s exact route is unknown but the utility will likely utilize some ROW. The general manager states Peru representatives are in the process of obtaining grant funding and believes the project will continue moving forward. Hunter explained to the county board that connecting to Auburn was determined as the best option for the City of Peru as well as Peru State College.
