Auburn BPW Accepts Bid on 2019 Flood Damage Repairs

The lowest of five bids to repair areas damaged in 2019 flooding around Auburn was accepted by the Board of Public Works (BPW) on Wednesday, Jan. 20.

Empire Construction and Trenching of Red Oak, Iowa submitted a total base bid of $233,131. It is close to the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s recommended construction cost of $233,150, notes Dave Hunter, general manager. The proposal was also recommended by Olsson.

Weather permitting, Hunter said the contractor may be on site in early March and done in early April. The work encompasses bank restoration on Longs Creek and the Little Nemaha River near the U.S. Highway 136 bridge plus access roads to three wells.
