Peru, Nebraska—The City of Peru has proclaimed June 20, 2017, as a day to honor Peru State College’s 150th Anniversary of its founding. Peru State was founded on June 20, 1867.

Monday, June 12, the Auburn Public Schools (APS) Board of Education declined to accept the resignation of Derek Bissitt. The school board met at the Julian Community Building.

The Auburn Board of Public Works (BPW) will be monitoring use of water at the Recreation Complex splash pad. The board will allow the city a month to reduce usage to an acceptable level.

AUBURN’S 16 & Under Adrenaline softball team won their district tournament this past weekend in Auburn. The team went 4-0 and has qualified for the State Tournament.

Thursday night, June 8, Tierra Williams of Auburn leaped 20’9-1/4” in the long jump at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Obituaries

Kathy Sue (Smith) Volker, daughter of Searcey and Vivian (Figgins) Smith, was born June 24, 1955 in Auburn, Nebraska. She was the only daughter, and joined three brothers in the family.

Lester L. (Pete) Cowell, the son of Armond (Buck) and Yvonne (Bonnie) Squires-Cowell, was born March 15, 1939. On January 5, 1958, Pete was united in marriage to Barbara A. Broady.

Keith Edward Wheeler, one of five children of Richard and Helen (Andrew) Wheeler, was born December 30, 1932, in Auburn, Nebraska.
