Bulldogs Drop ECNC Quarterfinal to Palmyra; Finish Tournament 2-1 to Win Consolation Bracket Led by Binder’s Scoring

The defending ECNC girls basketball champion Auburn Bulldogs were denied a chance to repeat their title following a first round loss in the conference tournament Palmyra, but managed to defeat Mead and Falls City to go 2-1 and place fifth in the tournament. After another winning week, the Bulldogs are 10-10 on the season.

It took extra basketball for a Pioneer Conference girls basketball champion to be crowned at Southern High School on Saturday, February 3, but in the end, Falls City Sacred Heart would avenge a January 25 loss to the Lady Eagles to claim the title, making Johnson-Brock the tournament runners-up. On their way to the conference title game, Johnson-Brock earned a 54 point win over Sterling on Tuesday, January 30 and held off Diller-Odell in the semifinals in Wymore.

Three Auburn girls wrestlers claimed individual conference titles at the Eastern Central Nebraska Conference Girls Invite on Tuesday, January 24 at Johnson County Central High School. Lucia Campbell, Mia Gerdes, and Gretchen Paschal all finished first in their respective weight classes to lead Auburn to a 4th place finish at the conference meet. Finishing second at the conference meet was Tayla Jones and Addie Henry Included among normal ECNC opponents was Omaha Benson, Thayer Central, Fillmore Central, Exeter-Milligan/Friend, and Meridian.

Seniors Binder, Boden Record Season-Highs in Scoring as Bulldogs Stack a Pair of Home Wins Against Falls City Sacred Heart, Nebraska City

A 30-point performance from senior Maverick Binder lifted the Bulldogs past class D2 #7 Falls City Sacred Heart on Tuesday, January 16 in Auburn. Binder shot 8 of 13 from the field to go with 13 free throws on 15 attempts to reach his highest scoring total since a 32-point game last season against Winnebago. Binder joins a list of nine previous Bulldogs to record multiple 30-point games in a career, which includes older brother Cam and current Bulldog girls basketball Head Coach Grant Cole.
