RICHARD E. “DICK” MOODY
RICHARD E. “DICK” MOODY

Richard E. “Dick” Moody was born on December 4, 1946, to Harold and Helen (Mastin) Moody. He grew up on a farm northeast of Auburn, attending country school and Auburn High School, graduating with the Class of 1965. He continued his education at Kansas State University, where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. It was through a fraternity brother that he met his future wife, Linda Renner.
Dick and Linda were united in marriage in 1969 and made their home in Lincoln, Nebraska. They were blessed with two children, Lisa and Brian.
While living in Lincoln, Dick served as an officer with the Lincoln Police Department. Later, a career change led him into the insurance industry, where he worked as an agent and district manager. This opportunity allowed the family to move to Auburn and eventually return to his farming roots. As a lifelong steward of the land, he took great pride in farming and especially enjoyed caring for his herd of cattle.
Committed to his community and county, Dick served as an elected Nemaha County Commissioner from 1985 to 2004. He also served on the Nemaha County Hospital Board for 19 years and was serving as chairman at the time of his passing. A lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church in Auburn, Dick served numerous terms on the Board of Trustees. He was a loyal supporter of 4-H, Auburn athletics, and many community organizations, taking particular interest in the activities and accomplishments of his children and grandchildren.
Dick is survived by his loving wife, Linda Moody; daughter, Lisa (Mick) Hale; son, Brian (Sara) Moody; grandchildren, Jordan (Danielle) Hale, Katie Hale, Elizabeth Hale, Trace (Elaina) Moody, Kellen Moody, and Burke Moody; great-grandchildren, Jay and Jude Hale; brothers, Michael Moody and Joe (Connie) Moody; and many cousins, extended family members, and friends.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Friday, October 16, from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Memorial services will be held Saturday, October 17, at 2:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Auburn.
Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
Dick will be remembered for his dedication to family, service to his community, strong faith, and love of farming. His kindness, leadership, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Services are entrusted to Hemmingsen Funeral Home of Auburn.
