HAROLD DUANE KING

1954 - 2026

Harold Duane King, affectionately known to family and friends as “Danny” and “Drano,” was born on July 28, 1954, to Harold Dean and Thelma Marie King at Nemaha County Hospital in Auburn, Nebraska.

Duane attended Auburn Public Schools and graduated from Auburn High School. Following graduation, he began a career with the Board of Public Works, where he dedicated 44 years of faithful service to his community. His strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment earned him the respect and friendship of countless coworkers and residents throughout the years.

On September 3, 1972, Duane was baptized at Nemaha Christian Church.

Duane married Patricia Able on September 8, 1972, at Auburn Christian Church. To this union, two children were born, Jarod and Dana. The couple later divorced in 1980.

On August 24, 1985, Duane married Kathie Boomgarn-Soto at Auburn Christian Church. To this union, Springer was born, and Kathie brought two children, Melissa and Mike, into the family.

Everyone who knew Duane knew he was a jokester at heart. He had a gift for making people laugh and enjoyed sharing stories and good-natured humor with family, friends, and coworkers. Duane had a deep love for fishing and spending time outdoors. Sundays Duane often watched NASCAR races, and he loved Nebraska Cornhusker football. He also enjoyed gardening and took pride in working on household projects, always building and improving.

Duane will be remembered for his dedication to his work, his devotion to his family, his sense of humor, and the many friendships he formed throughout his life. Known by many as “Danny” or “Drano,” he left a lasting impression on those who knew him through his kindness, laughter, and presence.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, former coworkers, and all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife Kathie; children Jarod (Kyisha) King, Dana Gerdes, Melissa (Donald) Baker, and Springer Hendricks; 16 grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter; sisters Linda Carder and Wanda King; brother John (Susan) King; cousins Robin Sudman, Jim (Shirley) Robbins, and Joe Robbins; other relatives and many friends.

A memorial service was held Friday, June 26, 2026, at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn, officiated by Brian Esser. Jarod King and John King served as urn bearers and Duane’s grandkids were honorary bearers. Burial followed in Nemaha Cemetery at Nemaha.

Services were entrusted to Hemmingsen Funeral Home of Auburn.
