LEROY “RED” WAGNER 1938-2026

He was inducted into the U.S. Army on Dec. 5, 1961 and served in active duty until Dec. 4, 1963 when he transferred to the Army Reserves. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 30, 1967 attaining the rank of Sergeant. Red earned the rife marksman and good conduct medals for his service during the Vietnam Era.
Red worked production for the Campbell’s Soup Company in Tecumseh for many years until his retirement. He was a member of the Methodist Church for 40 years and later was a member of the Baptist Church.
In his spare time Red enjoyed visiting with friends at the bowling alley in Tecumseh, watching t.v., company during deer season, and following Husker sports. Red had a great sense of humor, was a humble and kind man.
He passed away January 15, 2026 in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 87 years.
Red is survived by his sister Beverly Kissinger, his nephews and nieces, Steve Wagner and special friend Cheryl Sharp, Jim Wagner, Jerry Wagner and wife Marcia, Dawn Wagner and special friend Fred Lauenroth, Mike Wagner and wife Cheryl, Joyce Porter and husband Doug, Dale Vincent Dezort and Cody Farwell and husband Russ and Kevin Kissinger, numerous great-nieces and great-nephews and special friend Betty Huttenmeyer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Clara, brother Leonard, sisters Elaine Dezort and husband Dale brother- in-law, Dean Kissinger, nieces, Paula and Angela Dezort and Mary Dezort, nephew Gregory Kissinger and great-nephew Chad Ide.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska with Pastor Ken Tubbesing officiating. Cheryl Meister, organist, accompanied vocalist, Carol Ensor, as she sang 'Amazing Grace' 'In The Garden' and 'Beyond The Sunset.' Pallbearers were Jeremy Wagner, J.J. Taper, Gavin Wagner, Aaron Schultz, Nicole Wagner, Courtney Taper, Emily Taper and Lilly Wagner. Honorary pallbearers were Josh Robinson, Justin Robinson, Vanna Wagner and Willa Wagner. Interment was in the Vesta Cemetery, rural Tecumseh, Nebraska with full military honors by the Tecumseh American Legion and VFW Posts and the Army National Guard Funeral Honors Team. Memorials may go to the Vesta Cemetery.
Services were entrusted to Wherry Mortuary, Tecumseh, Nebraska.
