IN LOVING MEMORY OF VIVIAN HELENA SOPHIA OESTMANN 1930 - 2025

On February 17, 1930, on a farm about 8 miles north of Humboldt, Nebraska, a little girl was born to Henry and Clara Alberts. On March 9th, she was baptized by Rev. E.F. Geyer. She was named Vivian Helena Sophia. Vivian’s baptismal verse is: “Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not: for such is the kingdom of God.” Mark 10:14. Vivian was confirmed on September 10, 1944, at St. James Lutheran church near Humboldt.

Vivian attended elementary school at District 10 Northwest Star in Richardson County, NE. She attended Bratton Union High School and graduated with the class of 1948. She attended Peru College, where she earned a teaching certificate in secondary education. She taught at District 62, Nemaha County, Nebraska and at Bratton Union. From March of 1963 through 1997, Vivian worked at the Nemaha County Health and Human Services offices.

On April 15, 1955, Vivian and Gerald Oestmann were married at St. James Lutheran Church in Humboldt, NE. The couple was blessed with a wonderful family: Jerry Lee and his wife Alicia, Daniel Joel, Shari Renae and her husband Dan Hohnstadt, and 3 grandchildren: D.J. Oestmann, Philip Hohnstadt, and Sarah (Hohnstadt) Bogdanoff and her husband Micah.

Faith, Family, and Friends were priorities for Vivian and Jerry. They were active members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Auburn, NE since 1967 and held various offices in the church. They taught Sunday school, confirmation classes, and taxied many parishioners to Sunday services. Vivian volunteered at the blood mobile, Good Samaritan Home, and the Tecumseh Prison Ministry.

Vivian was preceded to our Heavenly home by her husband Gerald, her parents Henry and Clara Alberts, older sister Dorthea and her husband Arnold Kuhlman, younger sister Willie and her husband Wayne Moerer, sister-in-law Marlene Alberts, brothers-in-law Bob Agnew and Sam Rankin, and many beloved nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Vivian is survived by her 3 children and their spouses, 3 grandchildren and spouse, sisters- in-law Linda Agnew and Dianna Rankin, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and their spouses, and her loving brother Eiber “Ike” Alberts.

A funeral service was held Friday, October 10, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Auburn, officiated by Pastor Brent Berg. Sandy Wilson was organist for congregational hymns, a trumpet trio of Dan Hohnstadt, Sarah Bogdanoff, and Pat Maddox also provided accompaniment. Casket bearers were Daniel Oestmann, DJ Oestmann II, Dan Hohnstadt, Phillip Hohnstadt, Sarah (Hohnstadt) Bogdanoff, and Micah Bogdanoff. Honorary bearers were Jerry Lee Oestmann and Eiber Alberts. Burial followed in Sheridan Cemetery at Auburn.

Services were entrusted to Hemmingsen Funeral Home of Auburn. ****** Nebraska. For the past eight years, they have made their home north of Taylor.

Marian was a member of Holy Cross Church and Holy Savior Church in Lincoln and a current member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burwell. She belonged to Parents Without Partners, served as the recording secretary for Arnold Heights Neighborhood Association and was a Sunday School Teacher. Marian enjoyed gardening, needlework, testing new recipes and caring for her pets.

She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Roger of Taylor; a son, Lonnie Holthus (Kelly) of Sterling; three daughters, Connie Richardson of Wichita, Kansas, Betty Kelly of Morton, Illinois and Pennie Harms of Louisiana; a step son, Andrew Scherbarth of Lincoln; step daughter, Vicki Huss of Lincoln; brother, Richard Bundfuss (fiancé, Laura Biehl) of Lincoln; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, grandchildren, Kristina Kelly and Sean Morris and great-granddaughter, Alexa Morris.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 17, 2025, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burwell, Nebraska. Pastor Tim Reicks will officiate. Interment will be in the Banner Cemetery at Burwell, Nebraska. Visitation will be prior to the service on Friday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Family’s Choice for future designation.
