ROGER A. BROADY
Roger Arthur Broady, son of Arthur and Esther (Hauberg) Broady, was born January 18, 1937. Roger was baptized February 21, 1937, at his parents’ home by Reverend William Fruehling. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Johnson, Nebraska. He was confirmed at St. James Lutheran Church March 22, 1959, by Pastor August Blobaum.
Roger was raised on a farm southwest of Johnson. He attended Johnson Public Schools and graduated from high school in 1954. After graduation Roger farmed with his dad for two years then worked in construction and farming. His first job was building an addition to the Johnson High School in 1956.
On April 12, 1959, Roger was United in Marriage to Edith Gobber at St. James Lutheran Church near Humboldt, Nebraska. They would be blessed with two children, Jana and Bruce.
Roger enlisted in the United States Army August 23, 1960. He completed Basic Combat Training at Fort Hood, Texas and completed Army Aviation School for Utility Airplane Maintenance and Aircraft Maintenance at Fort Rucker, Alabama before being stationed at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas as a Helicopter Mechanic. He finished active duty on August 21, 1962, and was in the Army Reserve for four years. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army in August 1966. After returning home from the service, Roger farmed and worked in construction for Beall Construction. He also worked for Southeast Construction and Caspers Construction. In 1990 Roger worked for Nemaha County Road Department District #3 until he retired. After retirement he worked part time for Rogge Farms. He really loved the fall when he could run the combine to harvest the crops.
Roger was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Humboldt, Nebraska. He held various offices on Church Council and was a Sunday School Superintendent. He was also a member of Auburn Legion Post #23. Roger was presented his Quilt of Valor in May 2022.
He loved spending time with his family, attending grandchildren’s activities, and he loved to play with his great-grandchildren. His greatest pleasure was being with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Roger also enjoyed restoring Ford tractors and attending NASCAR races in Kansas City.
Roger is survived by his wife Edith of 66 years, children Jana (Lynn) Rogge, son Bruce Broady, two grandchildren Alyssa (Jacob) Baber and Alex Rogge, great-grandchildren Lynden, Leighton, and Laurel Baber, brother Terry Broady, brother-in-law Arnold Gobber, sisters-in-law Evelyn Greenlee and Ruth Wendelin, and nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at St. James Lutheran (Long Branch)ChurchnearHumboldt, with Rev. Eric Spruth-Janssen officiating. Carolyn Hahn was accompanist for congregational singing. Casket bearers were Alex Rogge, Jacob Baber, Jeff Broady, Gene Caspers, Dennis Hahn, and Lanny Williams, with Brad Broady, Delynn Kienker, Sterling Kohrs, and Bill Pohlman serving as honorary bearers. Burial was in the Johnson Cemetery with graveside military honors provided by American Legion Post #23 of Auburn and Nebraska National Guard Honors Detail.
Services were entrusted to Hemmingsen Funeral Home.
