Richard A. “Rick” Harms, 71, of Sterling, died Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at his residence. He was born on July 23, 1954 in Tecumseh to Donald and Shirley (Cornett) Harms. Rick attended Sterling Public Schools, served in the U.S. Army from 1971 until 1974, and worked for Smithfield Foods for over 40 years. He married Beverly Hindera and they were blessed with one son, Jason. Later they divorced. Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening.

Survivors include his son, Jason Harms of Sterling; brothers, Dennis Harms of Sterling and Jeff (Reco) Harms of Nebraska City; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Shirley Harms; sister, Linda Kaster.

Inurnment of the cremains will be at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, August 15, 2025, at the Sterling Cemetery of Sterling with Chaplain Sharon Schuster officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Army National Guard Honor Guard. Cremation has taken place and there will be no viewing.
