1969 - 2025

Brian Olan Nichols, the only child of Robert J. and Alice (Haack) Nichols, was born November 15, 1969, in Blair, Nebraska. He was baptized November 30, 1969, and confirmed April 28, 1985, both at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Johnson, Nebraska and attended Johnson-Brock Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1988. During his high school years Brian worked for his grandpa Louis Haack.

In his years after school Brian worked in various professions around southeast Nebraska. His first position was with PerMar Security at Cooper Nuclear Station at Brownville for many years, and next he worked at Clark Grain in Johnson. Brian then took a job at mead Lumber in Nebraska City and finally worked with Frontier Co-op in Elk Creek before he retired for health reasons.

As a lifelong member of St. Matthew Church, Brian had served on the church council. He was active in the communities of Johnson and Auburn.

He served in the Johnson Volunteer Fire Department and was assistant fire chief at one time. In Auburn, Brian was very active with Jaycee’s, served as President, and received the Governor Award from the state organization. He bowled with a team in league play for many years and was a big Denver Bronco’s fan.

Unexpectedly, Brian passed away at his home in Nebraska City on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at the age of 55 years, 5 months, and 23 days. His parents and grandparents and many aunts and uncles preceded him in death.

Brian is survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

A memorial service was held Monday, June 9, 2025, at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn, officiated by Rev. Kate Woolf. Laverne Michel, Eldon Russell, and Jeff Baack were honorary bearers. Burial of ashes followed in St. Matthew’s Lutheran Cemetery at Johnson.

Services were entrusted to Hemmingsen Funeral Home of Auburn.
