Scott Straka Candidate for JCC School Board
Scott Straka is running as a candidate for the Johnson County Central School Board in the November 3 general election. Scott and his wife, Jennifer have lived in Tecumseh since 2011. Over the last 15 years, Scott and his wife have both been heavily involved in the JCC community in various ways. Scott has coached Junior High football, basketball, and track and he has officiated volleyball and basketball. Scott has helped with JCC’s Quiz Bowl and Academic Decathlon teams.
“I’m likely best known for my work with the JCC Striv program, where I have provided play by play and color commentary for Thunderbird athletic events. Straka’s wife, Jennifer is the middle school language arts teacher. Both of the Strakas children graduated from JCC, Emma with the Class of 2022 and Maya with the Class of 2024.
“Johnson County Central and the Thunderbird Community have been very good to me and my family. I’m always looking for ways to support the school, so when I was approached by former School Board members and asked to consider running, I was definitely interested,” Straka said. “Over the last year I’ve tried to become more familiar with the challenges that will face the next School Board by talking to Board members, administration, teachers, students and members of the community at large. This research has led me to believe that I would be a valuable addition to the School Board.”
According to Straka, the biggest challenge that will face the new board members is going to be dealing with the results of the proposed bond for a new PreK-8 school. “If the bond passes we will be helping plan for the new construction, as well as making decisions as to how we most efficiently decommission old buildings,” said Scott. “If the bond doesn’t pass, we will have to decide how the district moves forward. None of these decisions will be easy and they will all have impacts on nearly every member of our area.
“I feel that my people skills and ability to communicate with others would be a valuable asset for the new Board. It won’t be easy to bring people together for a shared vision of what is best for Johnson County Central’s future, but I believe that I am up to the task,” Straka concluded.
