Science Meets Fall Fun in Tecumseh

Science Meets Fall Fun in Tecumseh

On Monday October 5th, fall fun and hands-on science came together through a Kids Club creative collaboration between Johnson County Extension and Tecumseh Parks and Recreation at the local Tecumseh Park.
Angela Johnson with Johnson County Extension and Maddie Moran Kennedy with Tecumseh Parks and Rec teamed up to give local youth an opportunity to explore science through fun, messy, fall themed activities.
Working in teams, the kids put their creativity and problem-solving skills to work as they designed their own real pumpkin volcanoes. Using pumpkins, baking soda, dish soap, water, food coloring, and vinegar, they created exciting eruptions while learning about the science behind the reaction.
The fun continued with another hands-on experiment as the youth made pumpkin pulp slime. The activity gave them a chance to explore texture, chemistry, the importance of measuring, and creativity while getting a little messy along the way.
The collaboration was a great example of how learning can come in all shapes and styles. By combing science with seasonal activities, the youth were able to work together, experiment, ask questions, and most importantly – have fun!
Johnson County Extension and Tecumseh Parks and Rec are excited to continue creating opportunities that encourage local youth to learn, explore, and discover through hands-on experiences.
The next session is scheduled for Monday November 16 at the Tecumseh Community Building from 1-3 p.m. Additional information will be posted in the coming weeks to the group’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/UNLExtensionJohnsonCounty
