Sterling Third Grader Spends Race Weekend with Joey Logano

Sterling third grader Kyler Melgaard spent a weekend in Las Vegas with one of NASCAR’s biggest names.
Kyler and his family traveled to Las Vegas Oct. 3-4 as guests of the JL Kids Club, a Joey Logano Foundation program that gives young fans a race weekend of behind-the-scenes access and gifts. Logano, a three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, drives the No. 22 Ford for Team Penske.
Kyler applied in January, submitting a questionnaire and a video interview. He was selected to attend the NASCAR Cup Series South Point 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, where Logano finished 10th.
On Saturday, Logano watched the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race from his suite with Kyler and the other children. On Sunday, Kyler helped push Logano’s car out of the garage and onto pit road before the race. His mother, Kelcey Melgaard, said meeting Logano was a highlight.
Among the gifts, Kyler received a custom fire suit identical to the ones drivers wear.
“Kyler has quite a collection and was able to add a lot of stuff to it!” Kelcey Melgaard said.
