Candidates for City Council at Large, City of Peru

Candidates for City Council at Large, City of Peru

Kim Allgood (write-in)

Introduce yourself to voters who may not know you. What is your connection to Peru, what led you to run for City Council?
Owner of KJ Whitehorse, wife of Jay, mother of 4 grandma of 9.
Moved to Peru 10 years ago. Jay’s home town. I hung out in Peru as a youth with Peg Allgood running around to Shopeasy grocery store and the cafe. The town has felt like home.

The council and the former mayor disagreed publicly this year over staffing at City Hall, and the mayor resigned in June citing a hostile council. There were recall attempts for the former mayor and a recall for the former city council president who is interim mayor. The city has also lost several employees over the past few years. How would you describe the working relationship among the council, the mayor and city staff, and what would you do to change it or to protect it?
I’m running for city council because I feel the need to be informed first hand not hear say what is going on in town.
I would like to see unite in the decisions from the council.  With everyone treated equally.

Peru buys its water from the Auburn Board of Public Works, and the city has dealt with a water shortage, a rate increase, missed billing to Peru State College and a citywide meter audit. What does the city still need to fix, and how should water rates be set going forward?
The waters issues I felt that we should of fixed our water resources in town. When we had our chance.
What does the city need to do to secure funding for needed repairs and open FEMA and NEMA grants, and how would you rank streets, water and sewer, and staff pay in the coming budget year?
I think we need to look into getting grants replace our water lines that are old and linking with loosing money on purchased water.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know?
Budget is a big issue to look into knowing where the money is being spent and having equally treated residents in our policies being put into place.

Brent Brown (incumbent)
