Andrew has many pleasant high school memories, when talking about them, she commented…” one of the most memorable things I have done in high school, was being a part of Unified showing. Unified Showing is a program that pairs children with special needs and a high school students who work together to show a lamb. They start working with their lambs in the beginning of June till the county fair. Each showman gets to name their own lambs. At practices, they work their lambs by walking three laps and answering three questions which are: what is your name? What is your sheep’s name? And what is your favorite part about your sheep? They then feed their lambs and get a snack. I have been very blessed to be a part of this program. I started off as a buddy in Otoe County and saw the need for it in my County. Now I run both Nemaha and Richardson County’s programs. This program combines my passion for showing and the special needs. Over the years I have played a vital role in unified showing and growing the program. In many cases, the children with disabilities have siblings that play sports or involved in different activities. Unified showing gives the showman a chance to show and compete like their siblings. It also allows them to get together with their peers during the summer.”
