Johnson County Farm Bureau Discusses Data Centers at Annual Meeting
Jaydn Smith, Director of Environmental and Regulatory Affairs with Nebraska Farm Bureau

State Senator Bob Hallstrom provided a summary of 2026 Legislative activities and a look ahead to the 2027 Legislative session at the annual meeting of Johnson County Farm Bureau on Tuesday evening at T-Town Restaurant and Spirits in Tecumseh.

While the Legislature balanced the state budget in 2025-26, after facing an initial $471 million shortfall, the state will face a deficit of approximately $800 million in 2027-28. Additional reductions in state spending will be required next year.

Hallstrom expects measures to provide property tax relief by tightening caps on the amount of property taxes that can be imposed upon taxpayers to be considered next session. He also expects legislation to address issues relating to the establishment of data centers across the state, citing the need to balance the benefits of enhanced revenues for state and local governments against the need for reasonable guardrails to protect our water and energy resources and to maintain local control.
