Dr. McAllister Joins Johnson County Hospital Staff

Dr. Josiah McAllister has joined the Johnson County Hospital staff as a family practice provider. “The Johnson County Hospital has a very good group of folks in the providers, nurses, administration, and all the departmental teams. I felt it was a very good team to join,” said Dr. McAllister. Although Dr. McAllister joined the JCH staff full-time two and a half weeks ago, some people might already be familiar with him, as he occasionally worked in the emergency room for the past year and a half. Dr. McAllister will see patients at Adams Primary Care on Mondays and at the Tecumseh Family Health office Tuesdays through Fridays. McAllister is a native of Atkinson, Nebraska, while his wife, Jacy, is a Kansas native. Josiah and Jacy met while attending Concordia University in Seward. Upon graduating from Concordia, McAllister attended the University of Nebraska Medical Center for four years. He completed his residency in Salina, Kansas, on July 1 of this year. During his medical rotations while earning his medical degree, McAllister said he and Jacy enjoyed the small-town atmosphere and have come to enjoy living in a smaller community setting. McAllister went into the medical field because his mom was a nurse and he liked working in science and health in school. McAllister chose family practice because he enjoys the variety of medical issues that he may encounter while treating patients. However, he loves treating kids and looks forward to the relationships he will develop with families as he watches the kids he treats grow up, as well as treating other family members and becoming part of their lives. As part of his training, Dr. McAllister conducted cancer screenings while treating women's health issues. He will be the featured guest speaker for the Johnson County Hospital's “Drink in Pink” Ladies Wine Night in observance of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month. All women are invited to attend this “Drink in Pink” event on Tuesday, October 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Tecumseh Fire Hall, 1110 Buffalo Drive, in Tecumseh. You can RSVP by October 16 by calling Radiology at 402-335-6345. “We felt this was the place where God placed us and where we need to be for our family,” said McAllister. Josiah and Jacy have three children: Myles, age three; Molly, age two; and Marshall, who is five months old. The McAllisters live near Adams. Their family is important to them, so when they are not traveling and spending time with their parents, you can usually find them outside tossing the football around or just enjoying outdoor activities around their home. McAllister's wife, Jacy, works from home as a bank examiner. “We're excited to be here and have that small-town feeling of being in a good, close-knit community. We're excited to grow and become a part of that atmosphere,” Dr. McAllister concluded.
